Bluff History Group came into being when 14 local residents held an inaugural meeting on 27th September, 1999. Current membership now numbers 68. The main aim of the group was to print an historical Bluff newspaper and to eventually print a book. The ensuing years have seen 15 issues of ‘Early Bluff’ newspaper printed and almost 12,000 copies sold.
Pre 1918 Bluff cemetery interments have been researched and the results compiled and printed in a document. Most of this information was previously lost when local council records were destroyed by fire in 1917.
The group’s first book ‘Bluff in Retrospect’ released in 2001 sold out and has been re-printed during 2008.
This hard working group also successfully launched the Bluff Heritage Trail in 2003. The trail is a real asset to Bluff and attracts many followers each year.
Bluff History Group’s second book ‘Seal Hunters of the South’ was printed in 2007. Already over half of the 1000 copies have sold.
A third book, ‘Hey-Day to May-Day’ was launched on 28 November 2009 and is selling fast.
The group intends to publish a fourth book, ‘Bluffies’, which is presently at the research stage
Through hard work and dedication to the promotion of Bluff’s rich and unique past, Bluff History Group has achieved much in the past eleven years.
